PRIVACY NOTICE

We know that you care about your personal data and how it is used, and we want you to trust that Unilever uses your personal data carefully. This Privacy Notice will help you understand what personal data we collect, why we collect it and what we do with it.

At Unilever we are committed to protecting and safeguarding any personal data you give us as well as compliance with applicable data privacy laws. The aim of this notice is to provide you with information on what personal data we may process, why we process your personal data and what privacy principles we abide by, as well as informing you of the rights you may be entitled to exercise in relation to your personal data.

The information on this notice relates to any data processing activities in connection with the Panellist Studies for which Unilever UK Central Resources Limited (“Unilever UK CR” or “us”) is the data controller.

By providing the personal information contained in the Panellist recruitment questionnaire (the “Recruitment Questionnaire”) and agreeing to this Privacy Notice, you are consenting to Unilever UK Central Resources Limited collecting, using, processing and disclosing your personal information in accordance with this Privacy Notice and our Privacy Policy. A copy of our Privacy policy is attached to these Terms, and you may access our Privacy Policy at any time at www.unileverprivacypolicy.com.

Why do we process your data?

As part of the studies, you may be required to use products on site or at home, complete questionnaires or take part in discussion groups. The aim of the studies is to gain a better understanding of consumer habits and to aid Unilever’s research into making better products. Therefore, we may process your data for the following reasons:

  • respond to queries or requests submitted by you;
  • process your completed and submitted Recruitment Questionnaire;
  • invite you to partake in various studies;
  • administer or otherwise carry out our obligations in relation to any agreement you have with us;
  • receive feedback from you on topics, including the service received by the programme and/or improvements on possible products and/or product concepts; and
  • enable participation in the Programme as specified in the Panellist Information Sheet

     Together the “Specified Purposes”

What personal data do we collect?

Personal Data means information which identifies you and relates to you as an individual. It does not include data where the identity has been removed (anonymous data). We process any personal data or sensitive personal data in accordance with the UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018, as amended from time to time.

The types of Personal Data we will collect includes the following:

  • First name
  • Surname
  • Address
  • Year of Birth
  • Email address
  • Phone number
  • Payroll data
  • Any data provided by the Panellist as part of the study, however, this data will be pseudo anonymised and stored separately from any directly addressable personal data.

How do we collect your personal data?

Personal data provided by the Panellist is detailed above and collected when you join the Consumer Centre panel. This data is used to select and contact Panellists for the purpose of study participation.

Further data provided by the Panellist may be collected as part of a study. This data will be pseudo anonymised and stored separately from any directly addressable personal data.

How will your personal data be used?

Unilever will only use your personal data when the law allows us to. Most commonly, we will use your personal data in the following circumstances:

  • To manage your participation in the Consumer Centre panel;
  • To process recruitment forms related to the studies and to otherwise determine your eligibility for any study;
  • For the processing and analysis required as part of the conduct of studies and their outcome;
  • To communicate with you via email, mail or other methods about information relevant to your participation in the Consumer Centre panel and any studies relevant to you;
  • To comply with a legal obligation, including Unilever’s compliance with obligations related to onsite and off-site health and safety;
  • To allow your access to Unilever premises;
  • To process payment to you as a reward for taking part in any study;
  • To carry out other activities that may be necessary in the normal course of your participation in the Consumer Centre panel or a study.
  • Where it is necessary for legitimate interests pursued by Unilever and/or a third party’s legitimate interest and your interests and fundamental rights do not override those interests.

Unilever may also use your personal data in the following situations, which are likely to be rare:

  • Where it is necessary to protect your interests (or someone else’s interests)
  • Where it is needed in the public interest or for official purposes.

By agreeing to these Terms, you are consenting to the Company using your personal information in this manner.

By signing up for any studies, you will be required to consent to your personal information being used as necessary by the Company to enable you to partake in your selected study.


Data Retention

In principle we do not hold your personal data for longer than is required for the original purpose it was collected, unless those purposes are compatible with the original purpose, or we are under a legal obligation to retain it for longer.

For the purposes of the studies, any data will be deleted within a period of 30 years following completion of the research project.

Lawfulness of data processing

Legal grounds on which we may base our processing activities on may include:

Performance of a contract

The processing is necessary for the performance of a contract we have with you.

Legal obligation

The processing is necessary for us to comply with our legal obligations (not including contractual obligations). For example: compliance with tax provisions and court orders.

Vital interests

The processing is necessary to protect someone’s life. For example: In case of a medical emergency at a test site.

Legitimate interest

The processing is necessary for the purposes of a legitimate interests. A legitimate interest is a benefit for you, Unilever, a third party or a benefit for the exercise of a certain activity (such as a contract). We balance that benefit with potential risk of processing before deciding to rely on this ground. Examples of our legitimate interests include reporting and auditing, managing our business operations, analysis and statistical purposes, corporate acquisitions and mergers, and security of our operations, systems and premises including monitoring systems, networks, e-mails and IT activity to prevent misuse and fraud.

Consent

Processing may be lawful because you consented to it.

Security of your data

Unilever puts security controls in place to protect against unauthorized and unlawful processing and against accidental loss or destruction of, or damage to, personal data. This includes both technical controls (e.g. access control lists, network authentication, password protected) and organizational controls (e.g. training and awareness).

You may have certain rights relating to your personal data

  • right to be forgotten (erasure)
  • right to correction
  • right to restriction of processing
  • right to object
  • right to withdraw consent
  • right to not be subject to automated decision-making

Who will process my personal information?

Your personal information is collected and processed by third parties who are acting as agents for the Company. The approved third party will not make any use of the information other than for the Specified Purposes, and any such use will be in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

Your personal information will be passed to our Payroll Provider, Manpower UK. Manpower is bound by the provisions of the Data Protection Act to ensure that your details remain confidential and are not disclosed to a third party without your express consent.
